چکیده

MOTIVATION Dominant markers (DArTs and AFLPs) are commonly used for genetic analysis in the fields of evolutionary genetics, ecology and conservation of genetic resources. The recent prominence of these markers has coincided with renewed interest in detecting the effects of local selection and adaptation at the level of the genome. RESULTS We present Mcheza, an application for detecting loci under selection based on a well-evaluated F(ST)-outlier method. The application allows robust estimates to be made of model parameters (e.g. genome-wide average, neutral F(ST)), provides data import and export functions, iterative contour smoothing and generation of graphics in an easy to use graphical user interface with a computation engine that supports multicore processors for enhanced performance. Mcheza also provides functionality to mitigate common analytical errors when scanning for loci under selection. AVAILABILITY Mcheza is freely available under GPL version 3 from http://popgen.eu/soft/mcheza.

Assessing The Spatial Dependence of Adaptive Loci in 43 European and Western Asian Goat Breeds Using AFLP Markers

BACKGROUND During the past decades, neutral DNA markers have been extensively employed to study demography, population genetics and structure in livestock, but less interest has been devoted to the evaluation of livestock adaptive potential through the identification of genomic regions likely to be under natural selection. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Landscape genomics can greatly benefit ...

Molecular identification of infertile bulls by using newly developed DDX3Y based on human STS markers

To determine the role of DDX3Y gene in spermatogenesis and infertility in bulls, blood samples were collected from five infertile bulls (azoospermic; no sperm in the semen) at the Animal Breeding Center in Karaj, Iran. The recommended human primers by EAA/EQMN were investigated using the BLASTn database for STS marker detection. Alignment of STS marker genes with bovine genome was performed. Pr...

Molecular Markers for Fertility in Farm Animals

A genetic marker is a gene or DNA sequence with known localization on a chromosome. It can be de-scribed as a variation that can be measured or detected by a suitable method, and can be used subsequently to detect the presence of a specific genotype. Such variations occurring at chromosomal or DNA level can serve as genetic markers. The progress in development of molecular markers suggests thei...

Monitoring Three Plasmopara halstedii Resistance Genes in Iranian Sunflower Inbred Lines

Background: Downy mildew caused by Plasmopara halstedii is one of the most devastating diseases of sunflower worldwide. So far several dominant resistance genes designated as Pl have been identified and their molecular markers linked to these genes are available. However, no information on the resistance genes is available in Iranian lines. Objective: In this study, the presence of three map-b...

IDENTIFICATION OF MOLECULAR MARKERS LINKED TO LEAF CURL VIRUS DISEASE RESISTANCE IN COTTON

The identification of molecular markers linked to leaf curl virus (CLCuV) disease resistance in cotton has the potential to improve both the efficiency and the efficacy of selection in cotton breeding programs. Genetic analysis suggested that CLCuV resistance is controlled by a single dominant gene. In this study, an interspecific F2 population derived from a cross of Gossypium barbadense and G...
